Out and About

The Southern Upland Way starts in Portpatrick and after 14 miles, passes the Chlenry front gate. Go to to plan your walk and spend your first or last night at Chlenry, where you can rest your weary limbs in a large hot bath followed by a delicious meal.

Galloway has back-end spate rivers. With advance notice we can arrange salmon and sea trout fishing on the nearby River Luce for our guests. Trout fishing can also be arranged for you in Dunskey Loch. If you have your own boat and wish to go sea fishing, we can also advise our guests on the safest places to launch.

Galloway is renowned for its wildfowling - birds come in off the sea lochs and the Solway Firth in their thousands. With advance notice, wildfowl shooting with expert guides can be arranged for our guests.

Wonderful walks can be had along long sandy pristine beaches such as Sandhead and Killantringan where, if you're brave enough, you can also swim.

There is a golf driving range within half a mile of Chlenry Farmhouse and other courses range from a 9-hole course at St Medans near Monreith to the world famous links course at Turnbury. All are spectacular and beautiful, challenging and well laid out, and can provide plenty of fun as well as exercise for all standards of player.
